http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=126-10162003

Reports that note there has been a significant response/remission rate only

tell the readers that the cancer is sensitive to a particular treatment. But

this usually does not mean the cancer is completely eradicated unless the

response or remission is sustained for a prolonged period of time. Though

responses and remissions are desirable, they do not equate with cure unless

they are complete and sustained. Thus caution in interpreting early reports

of favorable response rates would be prudent.

another former Society grantee, and Nobel laureate, was quoted as saying

"Judah is going to cure cancer in two years." Now, five years later, Dr.

Folkman\'s work continues to show great promise -- indeed, it is among the

most important cancer research currently taking place -- but we are still a

long, long way from fully controlling this disease.

6. In truth, cancer is potentially the most preventable and the most curable

of the major life-threatening diseases confronting Americans.
