The Perrier Source dates back to the Romans, but gained renown 15 centuries later. In 1793, the mayor of Vergeze, France where the Source is located, recognized its exceptional qualities. In 1863, Napoleon III allowed the Source to be developed. By 1903, under the management of Dr. Perrier and Sir St-John Harmsworth, Perrier\'s famous green bottle became popular throughout Europe and was the first bottled mineral water available in the U.S.

Source Perrier was purchased in 1992 by Nestlé, the world\'s largest food company and owner of the French bottled water company Vittel. The water division of Nestlé is known as Nestlé Waters, which today serves 70 well-known bottled water brands in 160 countries world-wide.

The Vittel company, founded by Louis Bouloumie, in the heart of the Vosges Mountains of France, first opened as a Spa in 1855. Designed by Charles Garnier, the architect of the Opera of Paris, the Spa was renowned for the power of its restorative waters, which were bottled and sold for drinking throughout Europe. Vittel remained a private French company until its purchase by Nestlé in 1990.

In addition to the Perrier and Vittel brands, Nestlé Waters North America also imports the S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna brands from Italy.

Since 1980, Nestl?Waters North America has developed a portfolio of premier brands of bottled water, including Arrowhead, Poland Spring, Zephyrhills, Ozarka, Deer Park, Ice Mountain, Aberfoyle Spring, and others.
