Nelson V, Chair,Science Policy & Legislative Affairs Committee; Dr. Margaret Foti,CEO Date:  Friday, February 9, 2007         by e-mail Re: FY2007 Cancer Research Funding Level in Jeopardy - Contact YourSenators to Oppose Any Amendments that Decrease Funding for HealthResearch Please Make Contact by Monday, February 12 TheHouse of Representatives has passed a Joint Funding Resolution forFY2007 that would provide for a 2% increase for the National Institutesof Health and level funding for the National Cancer Institute (which iseffectively an increase of $46 million since the NCI no longer has tocontribute to the Common Fund). The Senate is now debating and considering the Joint Funding Resolution. SomeSenators are expected to try to propose amendments to the Joint FundingResolution that would cut all non-defense spending across the board,including the NIH. ACTION REQUESTED By the end of the day on Monday, February 12, 2007, please: Write or call your Senators to urge them to oppose any amendment that would decrease funding for health research.
